Carmen - suita
Kubánský choreograf Alberto Alonso přišel na výzvu fenomenální primabaleríny Maji Plisecké s další verzí baletu o Carmen, vešla do dějin v roce 1967 ve Velkém divadle v Moskvě pod názvem Carmen suite, Bizetovu hudbu upravil a doplnil manžel Plisecké Rodion Ščedrin.
Jak v případě Rolanda Petita, tak i zde je příběh koncentrován na hlavní trojúhelník vztahů Carmen - Don José - Toreador, vše je ale transportováno do roviny symbolismu a expresionismu. Carmen je i díky scéně B. A. Messerera uzavřena do své arény života, kde zápasí se svým osudem, který nabírá v určitých okamžicích podobu býka, Don Josého, Toreadora.
Svou koncepci takto viděné Carmen vyjádřil Rodion Ščedrin těmito slovy: "Život Carmen se mi jeví jako aréna, ve které se denně odehrává boj o její svobodu. Musí neustále bojovat proti všem, všichni usilují o její život. Stále se její osud pohybuje na hranici mezi životem a smrtí. Nejinak, než je tomu u toreadora a býka."
